40 years later: The impact of the Nixon resignation
On the 40-year anniversary of President Richard Nixon's resignation, Cronkite Weil Family Professor of Journalism Leonard Downie Jr., vice president-at-large of the Washington Post, recalls the reporting that led to the late president’s downfall.
"Watergate was a watershed in American journalism," said Downie, in an interview with NPR. "Up until the Vietnam War and civil rights movement, there (were) many, many decades in which the press was very deferential to the government."
