ASU recognized for past, present solar accomplishments

April 03, 2014

The March 2014 College Planning & Management magazine notes Arizona State University's strides in solar power capacity generation.

The "Solar-powered Sun Devils" article highlights the university's past and present solar accomplishments, and states that ASU is on track to hit its current 25-megawatt (MWdc) generation capacity goal later this year.

The piece nods to ASU's energy and business partners that have helped ASU achieve all of its 86 solar installation endeavors, including some more noteworthy ones:

• The Tempe campus Sun Devil Fitness Complex installation is the first to combine photovoltaic and solar thermal technologies.

• The 1-megawatt SunPower solar farm – the company’s first commercial-scale deployment of its C7 Tracker CPV technology, which concentrates the sun’s power seven times. The installation boasts 8,640 CPV modules.

• The university’s first solar seating canopy at the Alberta B. Farrington Softball Stadium, which supplies 828 shaded seats for Sun Devil fans.
