Cronkite-hosted event profiled in PBS piece

January 31, 2014

In an age of an ever-changing media landscape, journalism schools are making it their mission to adapt accordingly to ensure their students are well-equipped for the industry. One way they do this is by attending the Scripps Howard Journalism Entrepreneurship Institute each year.

The weeklong event is hosted by ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and sponsored by the Scripps Howard Foundation. This year marked the third annual meeting, and in a recent PBS profile of the event, ASU’s Dan Gillmor was quoted: “We hope we’re helping folks better understand the startup culture – including what it takes to be an entrepreneur and the resources available to entrepreneurs. Then they can help their students understand it as well.”

Gillmor, founding director of the Knight Center for Digital Media Entrepreneurship within the Cronkite School, coordinates the program, bringing his experience and contacts in Silicon Valley to educators at the event.
