Podcast: What does it mean to be human?

Posted: Aug 10, 2010 | 14 min 03 sec

How do we define being human? What are the implications of the increasingly sophisticated technologies that are “beginning to make the human a design space”? In this episode of the Triple Helix podcast series, host David Edwards is joined by ASU professor Brad Allenby, who draws on his diverse and transdisciplinary experiences to explore the ethical, legal and environmental implications of an increasingly technological world, with a focus on two emerging movements: transhumanism and sustainability.

The Triple Helix is an entirely undergraduate-run international organization with 27 chapters and more than 800 students from the most prestigious universities in America and abroad. At ASU, the Triple Helix publishes a twice-yearly journal that features undergraduate authors discussing topics at the intersection of science, society and law. In 2009, a new podcast series was launched from the ASU chapter.
