Brenda Hosley is the new university senate president and chair of the University Academic Council at Arizona State University for the 2015-2016 academic year. Hosley succeeds Helene Ossipov as senate president.

Hosley is a clinical associate professor in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation. She has been with the university since spring 2009.

The university senate president is a top leader of the ASU shared governance system. One role of the university senate is to propose and approve motions that concern curricula matters and make recommendations to the university’s leadership.

As senate president, Hosley is responsible for providing leadership for faculty and academic professionals as they work through those questions and decisions. The university senate president also serves as the primary liaison between ASU faculty and the university’s senior level administration.

“As the incoming senate president I am both honored and excited about this opportunity,” Hosley said.  “Serving in this role will allow me to expand my service to the University community.”

Other newly elected representatives on the University Academic Council include Donna Cataldo, president-elect of the Downtown Phoenix campus; Melanie Pitts, president-elect of the Polytechnic campus; Elsie Moore, president-elect of the Tempe campus; and Alejandra Elenes, president-elect of the West campus.
