ASU Alumni Association adds 7 new groups to chapter network

May 22, 2015

The Arizona State University Alumni Association recently added seven new groups to its chapter network, bringing the total number of groups operated by the association and its alumni volunteers to 135.

The Alumni Association board, at its May 8 meeting, approved the formation of a club for alumni of the Sun Devil Family Association Scholars program, as well as a club for ASU alumni living in Nebraska. The board also approved international connection groups in Indonesia, Ireland, the city of Okinawa in Japan, Madagascar, and Norway.

These groups will join a network that now includes 42 geographically based groups within the United States, 23 academic affiliates focused on graduates of specific degree programs at the university, 16 special interest chapters or clubs representing alums of registered student organizations, and 54 international connection groups, representing Sun Devil alums worldwide.

The primary goal of chapters is to keep alumni connected to ASU, whether it be through their academic program, their current geographic location or the registered student organizations or university sponsored student groups in which they participated. Chapters sponsor a range of activities for their members, including networking events, Sun Devil game-watching celebrations, outdoor recreational activities, and service-oriented volunteer projects.

Many chapters give back to the next generation of ASU students by providing mentoring services, by hosting Sun Devil Send-Offs for incoming ASU students, or by awarding scholarships.
