The high-intensity excitement of men’s lacrosse returns to Arizona State University’s West campus this week when the Sun Devils, ranked No. 2 in the nation by the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association Coaches Poll, hosts back-to-back midseason match-ups with No. 16 Liberty University on March 13 and the University of Texas on March 16.

The competition field on the West campus will serve as the host venue for three home games during the 2015 season. The public is invited to attend the games, which run through April 18, with the season finale against the No. 8 University of Arizona Wildcats. Admission is free.

ASU’s West campus is located at 4701 W. Thunderbird Road in Phoenix. The schedule for home games is:

• 7 p.m., March 13: Liberty University

• 7 p.m., March 16: University of Texas

• 7 p.m., April 18: University of Arizona

Valley lacrosse enthusiasts can also catch the Sun Devils in action when they take on the No. 7 Grand Canyon University Antelopes at 7 p.m., April 3 at Grand Canyon.

The (5-1) Sun Devil men’s lacrosse sports club has achieved success on the field, earning the title of champions of the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference three of the last five years, and advancing to the Final Four of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association tournament six seasons in a row.

Men’s lacrosse is the first Sun Devil sports club to make the West campus the site of its home games. The games will be played on the 6-acre competition multipurpose field on the south side of campus, which is part of the state-of-the art Sun Devil Fitness Complex that opened in 2013. The 63,000-square-foot fitness facility includes amenities such as a lap pool, indoor track, indoor racquet ball courts, strength and fitness areas and a two-court gymnasium. Additional outdoor facilities include volleyball and basketball courts.

Sharon Smith, dean of students at ASU's West campus, said the return of Sun Devil Lacrosse is great news for ASU students and residents from the surrounding West Valley community, even those who may be discovering the sport for the first time.

“ASU students expect to gain a world-class education and experience an engaging college life,” Smith said.

“Hosting the lacrosse sports club games at ASU’s West location adds to the range of opportunities for social interaction and community engagement available to our students, and enhances the feeling of Sun Devil pride and tradition throughout the community,” Smith said. “We’re looking forward to cheering the team on to another successful season, and we welcome the larger West Valley community to join us,” she added.
