ASU alumni boost local communities through volunteerism
Arizona State University alumni across the nation will be participating throughout the month of March in volunteer projects in their local communities that range from helping with city park cleanups to sorting food bank donations. The volunteerism is a part of ASU Cares, a service initiative that encourages civic involvement among Sun Devils.
Alumni chapters from New York to San Diego will participate in ASU Cares projects this year. Here is a brief overview of the planned activities.
ASU Cares Day Projects
• Atlanta: Fundraiser at RiRa Pub to benefit childhood cancer research organizations, March 12
• Boise, Idaho: Clean up project at Idaho Botanical Gardens, March 14
• Chicago: Assisting at Lakeview Pantry East, March 21
• Detroit: Clothing drive for South Oakland Community Shelter/Hope Warming Center, March 21
• Los Angeles: Assisting at the local Ronald McDonald House, March 15
• Minneapolis: Sorting donations at Second Harvest Heartland WEST, March 28
• New York: Meal delivery for the WEWE Nutrition Program, March 22
• Pittsburgh: Bowling fundraiser to benefit the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society, March 21
• Salt Lake City: Volunteering at the Utah Food Bank, March 25
• San Diego: Homeless outreach activities with 16th & Island organization, March 25
• Seattle: Team participation in “The Big Climb” up Columbia Tower to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphona Society, March 22.
• Spokane, Washington: Centennial Trail clean-up project, March 21
• ASU School of Sustainability: Gardening maintenance at the Escalante Community Garden in Tempe, March 14
• Tucson, Arizona: Food drive to benefit the Community Food Bank and American Parkinson Disease Association, March 14
