Wrigley lecture to explore 'Sustainability as Freedom' at ASU Gammage

Marking its first engagement of the spring and largest to date, the Wrigley Lecture Series welcomes New York Times columnist and renowned author Thomas Friedman to ASU Gammage this Thursday, Feb. 26.

His lecture, titled “Sustainability as Freedom,” will explore why sustainability resonates with the present generation in the way that freedom resonated with their parents.

Friedman has received three Pulitzer Prizes and is lauded for his direct reporting on foreign affairs. He has authored six best-selling books, including “The World is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century” and “Hot, Flat and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution and How It Can Renew America.”

His sophisticated analysis of complex subjects has received numerous accolades, and he was named one of “America’s Best Leaders” by U.S. News and World Report.

The Friedman engagement celebrates sustainability visionary Julie Ann Wrigley, whose generous support of the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability serves to engage the community with thought leaders from around the world. Wrigley Lecturers examine sustainability challenges from a multitude of perspectives and invite the productive discourse that advances solutions.

2014 Wrigley Lecturers included physicist Amory Lovins, food activist Vandana Shiva, U.S. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and New Belgium Brewing CEO Kim Jordan.

“Sustainability as Freedom” is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Secure your seat by calling or visiting the ASU Gammage Box Office. Auditorium doors open at 6 p.m. and the lecture begins promptly at 6:30 p.m.
