ASU professor recognized for career achievements in engineering, construction
One of the leading construction industry news journals has presented Wylie Bearup its Legacy Award, recognizing his achievements in civil engineering, construction and project management during a nearly 40-year career.
Bearup is the executive director of the Alliance for Construction Excellence at Arizona State University and a professor in the Del E. Webb School of Construction, a part of the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, one of ASU’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering.
Reporting on his accomplishments, the journal notes Bearup’s contributions to many large-scale infrastructure projects in the West while he was with the Army Corps of Engineers. He also was influential in bringing about changes in state legislation to foster use of better methods of construction in Arizona.
As a deputy engineer for the city of Phoenix, Bearup helped to shape the revitalization of the city’s downtown core, including a major expansion of the Phoenix Convention Center and the development of ASU’s downtown Phoenix campus.
