Teachers College faculty recognized for public influence in education

January 07, 2015

Four faculty members from Arizona State University’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College are named in this year’s “Rick Hess Straight Up” (RHSU) Edu-Scholar Public Influence Rankings. The 2015 rankings, released Jan. 7 in Education Week, honor 200 university-based education scholars for their extensive contributions to public debates about education.

“The rankings offer a useful, if imperfect, gauge of the public influence edu-scholars had in 2014,” Hess wrote in his blog releasing this year’s results. “The rubric reflects both a scholar's body of academic work – encompassing the breadth and influence of their scholarship – and their footprint on the public discourse last year.”

Two Teachers College faculty members made the top 10 among this year’s honorees. David C. Berliner, Regents’ Professor Emeritus and research professor, ranked seventh on the list, and Gene V. Glass, Regents' Professor Emeritus, came in at 10th.

In addition, associate professor David R. Garcia and division director and professor Sherman Dorn made the cut at 69th and 165th, respectively.

The scholars were evaluated according to the following metrics: Google Scholar scores, book points, highest Amazon ranking, education press mentions, Web mentions, newspaper mentions, Congressional Record mentions and klout points.
