Leaders from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation visited Arizona State University Nov. 6 to learn about the university’s innovations in post-secondary and online education.

Bill Gates, co-chair and trustee of the Gates Foundation, and Sue Desmond-Hellmann, its CEO, met and spoke with students enrolled in online classes at ASU, and heard from university leaders on efforts to expand access to higher education to all qualified students who wish to pursue it.

Desmond-Hellman also toured the university’s Biodesign Institute, where she heard presentations from students on research they are conducting in immunology and the containment of infection, including Ebola.
