Event helps students find 'Road to the University'

Students in grades six through ten can learn tips and strategies for the university admission process and how to have a successful experience as a college student at the Road to the University event, Thursday, Nov. 20 at Arizona State University’s West campus.

More than 500 students from schools around metropolitan Phoenix have registered to attend this annual event, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the La Sala Ballroom, at 4701 W. Thunderbird Road in Phoenix.

“We want to help young people get an early start in understanding and navigating the college preparation process,” said Marlene Tromp, vice provost of ASU’s West campus and dean of the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences. “Of course, we would love to see all of the students who attend Road to the University come back to ASU as Sun Devils, but the information presented will be helpful to them regardless of which college or university they decide to attend.”

New College is collaborating with ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College and W. P. Carey School of Business, along with Educational Outreach and Student Services, the TRiO student success program and Access ASU, in presenting Road to the University.

The morning’s activities will include presentations focusing on college preparations, panel discussions with current ASU students and tours of the West campus. Registration begins at 8 a.m., with an information fair taking place from 8 to 9 a.m., followed by the breakout sessions and lunch.
