High school and community college students considering earning a bachelor’s degree at Arizona State University’s West campus can learn about the academic programs and support services the campus offers during the West Campus Expo on Friday, Oct. 17. Check-in starts at 8:30 a.m., with the program running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Students are encouraged to bring family members to the expo. Attendees will learn about degree programs on the West campus, along with topics related to admissions, student housing and financial aid. They will also take a tour of the campus.

“There’s no better way to determine whether a campus is a good fit for you than to pay a visit and talk with current students and representatives from the majors you are interested in,” said Jessica Brungardt Pauls, associate director of campus visits, events and student engagement in ASU’s Admission Services office. “ASU offers a variety of experiences at its four Valley campuses, and we are committed to helping students find the campus that is right for them with our expo events at the West, Downtown Phoenix and Polytechnic campuses, along with Sun Devil Days on the Tempe campus.”

West campus offers a blend of professional and liberal arts degree programs. The campus, at 4701 W. Thunderbird Road in Phoenix, features a welcoming environment of lush landscaping, fountain courtyards and architecture influenced by the University of Oxford in Great Britain.

“At West, we feel we have an unbeatable combination of a small-college experience, and all of the resources of a top-tier research university, with its cutting-edge research faculty,” said Marlene Tromp, vice provost at the West campus and dean of ASU’s New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences. “Our modern facilities include state-of-the-art classrooms, labs, fitness and dining facilities, along with residence halls designed to meet the needs of students throughout their university careers.”

ASU colleges offering degrees at West campus include New College, the W. P. Carey School of Business, and the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College. Barrett, the Honors College, also maintains an active presence on the campus.

New College offers more than 20 bachelor’s degrees in diverse fields such as forensics, psychology, life sciences, English, applied mathematics, interdisciplinary arts and performance, communication, history and applied computing. Professors encourage students to become involved in scholarly research projects under faculty guidance, and in many cases, students can earn a stipend for their work.

The W. P. Carey School, one of the nation’s largest and highest-ranked business schools, offers bachelor’s degrees in accountancy and management, as well as less traditional bachelor’s degrees in business, with concentrations in communication, global leadership, global logistics management, statistics and sustainability, at the West campus. The school also recently introduced a master’s degree in global logistics there, and has a full team of support staff at the West campus, including career advising and student engagement. The W. P. Carey School is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the most prestigious, longstanding and internationally recognized accreditation available for schools of business.

Students interested in a teaching career may pursue a degree in elementary, secondary or special education through Teachers College at West. The elementary education degree at the West campus includes options to take an accelerated program or focus on gifted education. The college has earned national acclaim for its iTeachAZ teacher preparation program, which provides students with significantly more supervised experience in K-12 classrooms as compared to most other programs of education. Teachers College also offers an education studies degree for students who are interested in an education-related career but do not aspire to become certified teachers.

Students selected for admission to Barrett West participate in the entire range of honors experiences by taking advantage of an array of intellectual and social opportunities that enrich their collegiate experience. The 15-room Barrett Suite, in the University Center Building at the West campus, hosts a range of events and seminars, and serves as a place where Barrett students study and socialize daily.

The West Campus Expo on Oct. 17 is free; parking validation will be provided for attendees.
