ASU makes list of 50 best colleges for entrepreneurs

August 06, 2014

Arizona State University has been named one of the top 50 colleges in the U.S. for aspiring entrepreneurs.

The list of top schools was published by College Choice, an independent college rankings site. It was compiled using information from Crunchbase, a data set of startup activity; startup platform Angel List; and other public business-data sources. It also took into consideration factors such as proximity to major metropolitan entrepreneurial ecosystems.

College Choice cited ASU's "unique approach to entrepreneurship" as one of the reasons it made the list. ASU, which was ranked 29th, was one of two Arizona schools on the list. The University of Arizona was ranked 43rd.

The accolade is "evidence of the school's commitment to create a higher education experience where education and entrepreneurship can co-exist," said Mitzi Montoya, vice president and university dean of entrepreneurship, in an Aug. 5 article in the Phoenix Business Journal.

"Entrepreneurial thinking is a mindset and skill set that can be applied across all majors and future careers, and we continue to be deeply invested in the development of our students' entrepreneurial skills, both in and out of the classroom," Montoya said. "We continue to add new programs and services for student entrepreneurs."
