ASU Alumni Association adds 3 new groups to chapter network

June 19, 2014

Arizona State University Alumni Association recently added three new groups to its chapter network, bringing the total number of groups operated by the association and its alumni volunteers to 116.

The Alumni Association board approved the formation of a chapter in New Orleans, as well as an international connection group in Malaysia. It also approved the chartering of a special-interest group for alumni affiliated with the Doran Scholarship. These three groups will join a network that now includes 41 geographically-based groups within the United States, 23 academic affiliates focused on graduates of specific degree programs at the university, 14 special interest chapters or clubs representing alums of registered student organizations and 38 international connection groups representing Sun Devil alums worldwide.

Christine K. Wilkinson, president of the Alumni Association, said that the expansion of the chapter network greatly facilitated the association’s engagement efforts.

“ASU alumni are moving to various places around the world, and many of them want to continue celebrating their Sun Devil spirit and giving back to the university through volunteerism,” she said. “We’re pleased to support their efforts to stay connected with ASU and spread its message globally.”

The primary goal of chapters is to keep alumni connected to ASU, whether it be through their academic program, their current geographic location or the registered student organizations or university-sponsored student groups in which they participated. Chapters sponsor a range of activities for their members, including networking events, Sun Devil game-watching celebrations, outdoor recreational activities and service-oriented volunteer projects. Many chapters give back to the next generation of ASU students by providing mentoring services, by hosting Sun Devil Send-Offs for incoming ASU students or by awarding scholarships.
