ASU students launch week of events to support United Way

March 17, 2014

Arizona State University students are partnering with Valley of the Sun United Way to create Sun Devils UNITE, a weeklong event program to address some of the most critical challenges facing children, families and individuals in Maricopa County. Events will occur March 29 through April 6, on all four ASU campuses.

The events include a day of service, a kick-off concert, a silent auction, a food drive and a literacy awareness event. The students hope to raise $100,000 for Valley of the Sun United Way to transform individual lives in the community.

The goal for Sun Devils UNITE week is to raise awareness among the ASU community about the Valley of the Sun United Way’s key community objectives:

• ensuring kids succeed
• ending hunger
• ending homelessness
• increasing financial stability of families and individuals

Hundreds of students are expected to participate from various organizations, including the Programming and Activities Board, ASU's Fraternity and Sorority Life, Changemaker Central, University Student Government, the Residence Hall Association and the Student Alumni Association. Events such as the Devils in Disguise service event and the kick-off concert are expected to draw more than 1,000 attendees.
