March 04, 2014

The Arizona State University Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation has collaborated with the Internal Revenue Service to offer a one-day workshop for small and mid-sized nonprofit organizations on March 19 or March 20 at the UA College of Medicine’s Virginia G. Piper Auditorium, located on 550 East Van Buren Street in Phoenix. Workshop hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for either session.

Experienced IRS Exempt Organization Division specialists will conduct this workshop and will explain what 501(c)(3) organizations must do to keep their tax-exempt status and comply with tax obligations. The workshop is designed especially for administrators or volunteers who are responsible for an organization’s tax compliance, as well as those interested in careers in the nonprofit sector.

Topics in this workshop are the “nuts and bolts” of tax-compliance for exempt organizations, and include: tax exempt status; unrelated business income, including gaming activities; employment issues; Form 990 issues; required disclosures; and much more. Attendees will also have ample Q&A opportunities with the presenters.

There is a $50 registration fee, and pre-registration is required via the ASU Lodestar Center website at: lodestar.asu.edu/irs. Registration for for the March 19 workshop will close at noon, March 18, and registration for the March 20 workshop will close at noon, March 19.

Certified public accountants, IRS enrolled agents and legal attorneys who attend qualify for earning CPE or CLE credit hours. A certificate of attendance will be provided by the IRS for recording your credit hours.
