Kelle Maslyn directs community relations in ASU's Tucson office
Long-time Tucson community and government relations executive Kelle M. Maslyn has been named director of community relations in Arizona State University’s Tucson office, according to Angela Creedon, assistant vice president of Public Affairs. In her new role, Maslyn will promote ASU’s relationships and interactions with key business groups, elected officials and decision makers in cities and towns across Pima County. She also will focus on Sun Corridor megaregion initiatives linking the Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas.
ASU's College of Public Programs has served Greater Tucson through its School of Social Work for nearly 40 years. In January 2013, the college expanded its offerings to include high-demand undergraduate and professional degrees leading to careers in public service and nonprofit leadership at convenient locations in the Tucson area.
“Kelle’s myriad contributions to the Greater Tucson community over the past decade make her an ideal ambassador for Arizona State University as we reach out to local leaders and stakeholders,” Creedon said. “Her ability to build consensus and strong partnerships on behalf of ASU will allow us to work collaboratively for the good of southern Arizona.”
Before joining ASU, Maslyn was corporate affairs manager at Comcast of Arizona, Inc. in Tucson for the past 10 years. In that position, she oversaw community, public, media and government relations for the company’s Tucson system, and development of its internal and external communications. Maslyn’s community relations efforts included organizing large-scale projects like Comcast Cares Day and the United Way campaign. She also served as executive director of the Marana Chamber of Commerce in Marana, Ariz., from 1999 to 2003.
"ASU has been educating people in Tucson for nearly four decades,” Maslyn said. “I'm looking forward to working with the community to help share ASU's vision and its role in the region's success."
An active Tucson volunteer, Maslyn currently serves as a vice president on the board of directors of Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson and Tohono Chul Park. She also sits on the Governor’s Commission on Service & Volunteerism and Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce Candidate Evaluation Committee and chairs the Citizen Accountability for Regional Transportation. Maslyn also was named one of the 2012 Women of Influence by Inside Tucson Business. She earned her bachelor’s of science in journalism from Northern Arizona University.
Tucson area students enrolled in ASU’s College of Public Programs may complete bachelor's or master's degrees in social work, undergraduate course offerings in criminology and criminal justice and graduate courses in nonprofit leadership. The new courses provide expanded, high-quality academic options for aspiring and rising law enforcement and public service professionals, as well as nonprofit and philanthropic organization practitioners living in southern Arizona.
