Obesity Solutions Funding Challenge closes March 3 with final event

February 26, 2013

Contestants invited to open office hours for last-minute advice

The Obesity Solutions Funding Challenge, which opened Feb. 1, will close for entries at 11:59 p.m., Sunday, March 3.  The funding challenge offers entrepreneurs with ideas to combat obesity the chance to win up to $10,000 in seed funding for their venture, along with office space, mentoring and the opportunity to present their ideas to real-world investors.

To mark the closing of the competition, Obesity Solutions will host a Last Hours Event at Changemaker Central from 1 to 3:30 p.m., March 3, in the Memorial Union on the Tempe campus. The purpose of the event is to hold informal office hours for contestants who feel their submissions could benefit from last-minute tweaks or guidance. Additionally, entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to network with each other while enjoying some light snacks.

Deborah Williams, associate director of Obesity Solutions, will be present at the Last Hours Event to field questions and offer advice to participants in the challenge. She holds a doctorate in sociocultural anthropology and is a registered nurse.

“Our last hours event provides a great collaborative working space to come together and network with others who are working toward a similar goal, while getting last-minute questions answered by the Obesity Solutions team," Williams said. "Getting together at an event like this can help participants to feed off of each other’s energy, allowing them to come up with ideas that they might not have otherwise.”
