Assistant Surgeon General Nadine Simons, of the U.S. Department of Public Health Services, gave the keynote address at a special lecture event, "The Challenges of Smoking Cessation on College Campuses," on Feb. 15 in the Memorial Union. Simons was joined by Justin Zeien, vice president of the Health and Counseling Student Action Committee, and Teri Pipe, dean of ASU's College of Nursing and Health Innovation, in discussing the student-led effort to make ASU a tobacco-free campus and how the initiative is part of a collaboration with Mayo Clinic on developing a healthy lifestyle campus. ASU will join more than 800 universities nationwide in becoming 100 percent tobacco-free on Aug. 2, 2013.
