ASU Polytechnic campus to host Cal Poly for final home wrestling duel

February 13, 2013

Arizona State University is hosting a wrestling match against Cal Poly at 7 p.m., MT, Feb. 15, at the new Sun Devil Fitness Complex, which opened in January 2013, at the ASU Polytechnic campus.

This final Pac-12 conference match of the wrestling season will be the first sporting event in the new Sun Devil Fitness Complex at the location. Funded by a student government-endorsed facility fee, the 60,000 square foot facility includes weights and fitness areas, gyms for group fitness classes, three basketball courts, a swimming pool, locker rooms, bike co-op, and the campus health and wellness

The match-up is also Senior Night, where two senior-student athletes and their families will be honored. The Sun Devils will honor seniors Levi Cooper and Jake Meredith, who will finish their careers at ASU at the end of the season.

Cooper is the team’s lone returning All-American, having earned the honor as a sophomore two years ago. Consistently ranked as one of the top 20 heavyweights in the nation for the past two seasons, Cooper has compiled a career record of 81-50 and is 38-22 in conference duals.

Cooper leads the team in dual victories this season with a 14-4 record and over his career, he has amassed 28 bonus-point victories – a mark good enough for 18th all-time in ASU history.

Meredith made the decision to return for another season after missing the 2011-12 campaign due to an injury.  An NCAA Championship participant and Pac-12 Champion at 184 pounds during the 2010-11 season, Meredith moved up to 197 pounds this season and has established himself as one of the elite grapplers at the weight class.

Meredith has put together a career record of 70-47 and is 35-23 in dual competition. He is 22-6 this season and has been ranked in the nation’s top-10 at 197 pounds for the majority of the year.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or by visiting the Sun Devil Ticket Office, located at the Carson Student-Athlete Center (south end of Sun Devil Stadium). Fans can reach a representative in the Ticket Office by phone at (480) 727-0000 or via email at sundeviltickets@asu.edu.
