Football's Sutton named to AFCA All-America Team

November 28, 2012

Arizona State defensive lineman Will Sutton has been named to the 2012 AFCA FBS Coaches' All-America Team, the American Football Coaches Association announced Nov. 28.

Sutton, a Bednarik Award semifinalist, was named the Pat Tillman Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year on Nov. 26. He recorded 10.5 sacks and 20 tackles for loss, along withthree forced fumbles and five pass breakups, despite missing one game and the majority of another due to injury.

He leads the Pac-12 and ranks fifth in the FBS with 1.82 tackles for loss per game, and also ranks 12th in the nation and third in the conference with .95 sacks per game. A force that can line up in multiple spots on the defensive line, he has anchored a pass-rush defense that is second in the nation in both sacks (4.0) and tackles for loss per game (8.83).

His constant pressure andpresence in the backfield has helped ASU lead the Pac-12 in both pass defense and pass efficiency defense, as well as rank second in the conference in total defense.

Sutton is the 11th Sun Devil to earn AFCA All-America honors and the first since defensive end Terrell Suggs in 2002. He is the seventh defensive player and the third defensive lineman to be recognized.

The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best -- the coaches themselves.
