Study abroad in South Africa examines a transitional society

A global education program will offer a glimpse into a post-Apartheid South Africa and explore one of the most beautiful regions of the world.

“ASU in Cape Town, South Africa” is an annual program directed by Mirna Lattouf, a faculty member in ASU’s School of Letters and Sciences. Program participants will get the opportunity to volunteer, study, explore and live in Cape Town, South Africa, from May 12 to June 22, 2013. Application deadline is March 1, 2013.

“Cape Town is a very diverse city and case study in a transitional society,” Lattouf said. “It is a wealthy beach resort city on the southern tip of the African continent. If offers exquisite natural beauty, inviting weather and world-class amenities. It is also a significant cultural, intellectual and historical center as well as a playground for the outdoor young at heart types.”

Located on the southern tip of the African continent, Cape Town is a city with a diverse range of attractions, sights, activities, natural beauty and landmark beaches. The program will examine the influence of technology on this transition in one of the most beautiful regions of the world, the remnants of the post-Apartheid period and explore civilizations very different from the United States and learn the depth of our common humanity.

Courses are open to all students and are designed to fit the needs of various degree programs; Lattouf will hold an information session on from noon to 2 p.m., Nov. 16,  at University Center, 444 N. Central Ave., room 207, Phoenix.
