Week in Sports: Sun Devils open Pac-12 season By Britt Lewis | September 25, 2012 Students greet football players as the team makes their way from the Devil Walk in Wells Fargo Arena to Sun Devil Stadium. Tailgaters enjoyed their pregame activities near Wells Fargo Arena. Sparky signals the entrance of the ASU football team as the Sun Devils began the Pac-12 season opener, hosting the Utes of Utah. Alex Arroyo, Clarissa Graham and Allison Grabowski show their affection for ASU. Rashad Ross makes his way into the end zone to score the first ASU touchdown. Marion Grice uses a spin move to reach the end zone off a Taylor Kelly pass, extending the ASU lead to 21-0. Jamal Miles moves the ball near the goal line behind some excellent blocking. Kevin Ozier takes the pass reception 52 yards until he finally gets dragged down at the eight-yard line – setting ASU up with first and goal. Cameron Marshall rambles into the end zone to bring the score to 31-7 in the second quarter. Arizona State wide receiver Rashad Ross and Utah defensive back Ryan Lacy jump for a pass during the first half at Sun Devil Stadium. Ryan Lacy’s shirttail grab of Alonzo Agwuenu failed to stop the Sun Devil from advancing the ball 19 yards off his one reception of the game. The Sun Devil Marching Band is full of spirit as they leave the field following their halftime show. Quarterback Taylor Kelly manages to get his pass away while in the grasp of Utah linebacker Boo Andersen. Junior Onyeali delivers one of two punishing sacks that were administered to Utah quarterback Jon Hays near the end of the first half. Deantre Lewis, having moved to the defensive side of the ball to shore up ASU's depth in the secondary, wraps up on Utah running back Kelvin York. Carl Bradford sacks Utah quarterback Travis Wilson for an eight-yard loss. Head coach Todd Graham throws the fork after the Sun Devils' victory. Next up: The football team will travel to the Bay area to meet the Golden Bears of the University of California at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, in Berkeley. ASU's Nina Brueggemann battles a Stanford player for the ball as the Sun Devils lost the Pac-12 opener to the Cardinal 3-0. ASU hosts USC in a Friday afternoon game Sept. 28.
