Young, Martin hoping to 'spur' Sun Devil defense

August 23, 2012

Arizona Republic sports reporter Jeff Metcalfe talks about the strong defensive combination of Chris Young and Steffon Martin who played at Arizona Western together in Yuma, Ariz.

Metcalfe quotes Martin, who said, "'We're basically blood brothers. It's great having someone you can depend on.'"

Metcalfe continues saying, "It's a dependence that continues in the transition to Arizona State, where both are projected to start when the season begins in a week. Young is beginning to draw raves for his play at the spur position, a linebacker/safety hybrid. Martin is in a tighter competition for the strong-side job in a multiple defense that will use three- and four-linebacker formations."
