Alumni Association seeks nominations for Homecoming, Founders' Day awards

August 20, 2012

It’s award nomination season at the Arizona State University Alumni Association. The organization is currently seeking nominations for its annual Homecoming Awards, which will be presented on Oct. 27, as well as for its Founders’ Day Awards, which will be presented on Feb. 21, 2013.

Homecoming Awards

The Alumni Association is seeking nominations in two categories for the Homecoming Awards program, which recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions to the association and the university community. Award recipients will be honored during halftime at ASU’s Oct. 27 Homecoming football game against the UCLA Bruins.

Nominations are being accepted in the following categories:

Alumni Service Award recognizes distinguished, exemplary and extraordinary service to Arizona State University and the Alumni Association by an alumnus/alumna. Past award recipients include Don Dotts ’58 B.A., Jim Kane ’88 B.A.E., Terry Goddard ’76 J.D., Steve Evans '67 B.S., '68 M.B.A., and Geoffrey Edmunds '63 B.S.

Alumni Appreciation Award presented to a community member who is not a graduate of Arizona State University for contributions that have enhanced the stature and success of ASU and the Alumni Association.  Past award recipients have included Don Budinger, Armando B. Flores, Edward N. "Eddie" Basha, Rick Howarth, and Dick and Dinky Snell.

To make a nomination in either category, visit http://alumni.asu.edu/events/homecoming/honorees. The nomination deadline is 5 p.m., Sept. 14. Questions about the nomination process can be sent to Janet Osgood at janet.osgood@asu.edu.

Founders’ Day Awards

The association is also accepting nominations for its Founders’ Day Awards, which will be presented during the organization’s annual Founders’ Day celebration on Feb. 21, 2013 at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa.
First celebrated in 1960 on the eve of the institution’s 75th anniversary, Founders’ Day salutes the enterprising spirit of those who helped the university’s predecessor, the Tempe Normal School, become a reality on March 7, 1885.  The Alumni Association began its tradition of presenting Founders’ Day Awards in 1964.

Founders' Day 2013 will honor alumni, faculty and staff who have served in the U.S. military or whose work has supported military and/or national defense initiatives. Nominations will be accepted for Faculty Achievement Awards in research, service and teaching, and for a Staff Achievement Award. Awards in both categories will recognize those who have supported the U.S. military and national defense either personally or professionally.

The nomination deadline is 5 p.m., Nov. 9. For detailed information on the nomination process, or to make a nomination for the 2013 Founders’ Day Awards, visit: http://alumni.asu.edu/events/founders-day/award-nominations.
