School of Nutrition hosts spring convocation

On May 4, the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion held its first spring Convocation at the Phoenix Convention Center.

The school conferred a total of 416 undergraduate and graduate degrees. The undergraduate degrees included 166 from Kinesiology, 102 from Nutrition, 88 from Exercise and Wellness, 36 from Health Sciences and seven from the Medical Laboratory Sciences program. 17 degrees were from the graduate Kinesiology, Nutrition and Exercise and Wellness programs.

The graduating class of May included the following outstanding students:

  • Courtney Golden, Kinesiology - Mouer Award
  • Laney Greynolds, Exercise and Wellness - Outstanding Story Award
  • Catherine Jarrett, Nutrition - Outstanding Graduate Student Award
  • Amanda Jensen, Nutrition (Human Nutrition) - Mouer Award
  • Kelsey Kebric, Exercise and Wellness - Mouer Award
  • Kristen Kelley, Kinesiology - Outstanding Senior Award and Mouer Award
  • John Kline, Kinesiology - ASU Alumni Outstanding Graduate Award and Mouer Award
  • Nicole Lattanzio, Nutrition - Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award
  • Rachael Prokes, Kinesiology - Mouer Award
  • Vielka Quinto, Medical Laboratory Sciences - Outstanding Student Award
  • Marc Surdyka, Kinesiology - Mouer Award

Linda Vaughan, PhD, RD, is the director of the new School of Nutrition and Health Promotion.

Exercise and Wellness, Health Sciences, Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Medical Laboratory Science programs were reorganized in 2011 to form the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion, creating a unique interprofessional academic and transdisciplinary research organization.
