Softball to finish home season with Senior Weekend

The Arizona State softball team (42-5, 14-2 Pac-12) will wrap up its regular home season with a three-game series against Utah (26-23, 1-17 Pac-12) this weekend at Farrington Stadium.

The series, which begins Friday night at 7 p.m. and continues Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m., will be the last for this year's senior class. Softball will honor the outgoing seniors following the conclusion of Sunday's contest.

2012 Seniors:
Nikole Afusia, BIS (sociology/social welfare)
Hillary Bach, MBA, undergraduate degree in business marketing 
Katelyn Boyd, family and human development
Laura Bradley, kinesiology
Talor Haro, BIS (communication and exercise wellness)
Annie Lockwood, special education and sociology
Christina Zambrana, physical education and sociology

PREVIOUSLY FOR THE DEVILS
ASU completed its fourth sweep of the season with three victories over the No. 11 Washington Huskies, which marks the most conference sweeps in a single season under head coach Clint Myers. Senior Katelyn Boyd became the all-time leader at ASU for RBI, with seven on the weekend thanks to a four-RBI grand slam and 232 in her career. Annie Lockwood had her own record-setting performance, moving into sixth place in the career RBI records with 164 after Sunday's 5-4 victory.

SCOUTING THE UTES
Utah got its first Pac-12 win this past weekend, with an 8-6 victory over Oregon State on Saturday. The Utes are led by sophomore infielder Taylor Austin, who has a .556 clip on the year, while the team is hitting a cumulative .288. The bullpen, which has a collective 3.82 ERA, is headed by Generra Nielson, who is throwing a 3.15 ERA going into the weekend.

Lowe's Senior CLASS Award candidate Katelyn Boyd earned her second consecutive Pac-12 Player of the Week award, which marked her fourth in her career. Boyd recorded her second grand slam of the season, and went 3-for-4 on the weekend in total. She currently leads the team this season in hits (59), home runs (19), slugging percentage (.977), on-base percentage (.581) and runs scored (61).

TICKET OFFICE PROMOTION
The first 100 fans to come through the gates each day of the Utah series will receive a 2011 National Championship commemorative ticket autographed by the Sun Devil softball team.

The weekend of May 4-6 the softball team will have a table set up at Farrington Stadium to accept donations for Helen's Hope Chest throughout the weekend as the Sun Devils take on Utah in the season home finale. Senior designated player Nikole Afusia is an intern at Helen's Hope Chest - we invite you to learn more about this event here
