Pat's Run 2012 By Britt Lewis | April 26, 2012 With the largest crowds expected since the inaugural event in 2005, some participants in the 2012 Pat's Run used the Metro Light Rail to get to Tempe. Katie and Thomas Terza of Las Vegas read the paper while waiting for Pat's Run to start. This is the third time the couple have participated in the event. This year's event sold out at its maximum capacity of 28,000 runners. One participant displays Sun Devil spirit during the playing of the National Anthem prior to the start. The first runners and a couple of mascots leave the starting line. The early starters head west on Rio Salado Drive. The event is 4.2 miles, in honor of Tillman's ASU jersey number, and starts and ends at Sun Devil Stadium. For most, it is a way to honor Pat Tillman's legacy, but for others it is a race. Ronnie Buchanan finished first with a time of 20:37. Of the 28,000 registered participants, the official results showed that 23,447 crossed the finish line in Sun Devil Stadium. Defensive end Charles Beatty greets Mark Reddle (660) and Jennifer Blazer (1264) as they finish Pat's Run. Blurred by a low shutter speed and encouraged by ASU football players, Cameron Marshall, Dante Alexander, Anthony Jones and JJ Holiday, runners finish their run at the 42 yard line of Sun Devil Stadium. After finishing in 30:36, fitness trainer Steven Bronston stretches his legs near the 42-yard line of the stadium. Participants stream into the north end of Sun Devil Stadium. While some ran, others had a great time in the Kids Zone. Participants make their way west along Sixth Street as they near the stadium. A misting trailer provided a cool oasis for the runners.
