ASU Alumni Association hosts reception for graduating veterans

April 17, 2012

The veterans chapter of the Arizona State University Alumni Association will host its inaugural graduation reception for current ASU students from 5 to 7 p.m., April 18, at the University Club Bistro, 425 E. University, Tempe.

The event, which is being co-sponsored by ASU’s Pat Tillman Veterans Center, will feature an appetizer buffet and a cash bar. Speakers will include Christine K. Wilkinson, president of the Alumni Association; Kent Hopkins, ASU’s vice provost for enrollment management; David Lucier, president of the veterans alumni chapter; and Capt. Steven Borden, director of the Pat Tillman Veterans Center. Graduating veterans who attend the event will receive ASU-themed coffee-table books and graduation cords.

Wilkinson said the reception reflects the expanded outreach that the association has made to ASU students and alums who are military veterans.

“There will be nearly 300 veterans graduating this spring,” she noted. “The alumni who formed our veterans chapter have made significant connections with vets on campus during the chapter’s first year of existence. We are pleased to welcome these brave Sun Devils into the alumni family.”
