Founders' Day honoree: Anna Wales

February 24, 2012

Anna Wales – a senior student engagement coordinator at ASU’s Polytechnic campus – is being honored with the Staff Achievement Award for her commitment to the university and its students, her enthusiastic display of Sun Devil pride, and her service to the university and the Valley community.

Wales joined ASU in 1994, and has worked for the W. P. Carey School of Business, the Office of Public Affairs, and the Morrison School of Agribusiness and Resource Management. She is currently employed by the College of Technology and Innovation.

She is considered by those she has worked with as a “goodwill ambassador” for the university. She has been praised for creating excitement about the university among students and their families as she has greeted new students, managed events, worked with donors and many other activities.

Wales’ pride in the university is legendary. A visit to her office has been called a “veritable overdose of maroon and gold” and a Sun Devil “tourist attraction.” She has volunteered for many outside-of-work ASU projects. She has been president of the University Staff Council, chaired the university’s Commission on the Status of Women, and been a member of the University Hearing Board. She currently serves as a Sun Devil Spirit Captain.

Outside of her considerable commitment to ASU, Wales has served as a National Advisory Team member and chair of the Great West division of the American Cancer Society. She has been instrumental in organizing Relay for Life teams at ASU.
