Alumni chapters serve local communities by participating in ASU Cares Day

Arizona State University alumni across the nation will be participating throughout the month of March in volunteer projects in their local communities to lend support to organizations ranging from food banks to humane societies. The project is a part of ASU Cares Day, which encourages Sun Devil alums to take part in volunteer projects that promote civic involvement.

More than a dozen alumni chapters from Seattle to Washington, D.C., will participate in ASU Cares Day projects this year. Here is a brief overview of the activities that have been planned.

ASU Cares Day Projects:

• Houston: Canned Food Drive, March 2012 (ongoing)

• Chicago: Volunteer at Chicago Food Depository, March 3

• Seattle: Food drive for Rainier Valley Food Bank, March 3

• Tempe (ASU): Harvesting campus-grown citrus, March 3

• Austin: Canned food drive, March 6

• Colorado: Volunteering at The Action Center, March 10

• San Diego: Beach cleanup with Surfrider Foundation – Oceanside, March 10 and Coronado, March 24

• Tucson: Canned Food Drive, March 10

• Washington, D.C.: March Mural Madness, March 10

• Orange County: Beach cleanup, March 17

• Las Vegas: River Mountains Loop Trail cleanup, March 17

• Los Angeles: Staff L.A. Marathon water station, March 18

• Philadelphia: Volunteering with City Team, March 18

• Western Pennsylvania: Volunteering with the Humane Society, March 24


• Seattle: Greet finishers of the 2012 Big Climb Seattle, March 25

• Oregon: Nehalem Bay State Park Cleanup, March 31
