Open house showcases digital culture program

November 28, 2011

The  ASU School of Arts, Media and Engineering Digital Culture students will share their cutting-edge projects from noon to 5 p.m., Dec. 2, during an afternoon open house of digital media explorations. The installations range from interactive performances and sound exhibits to Web-based projects.

Thanassis Rikakis, director of the school, will discuss, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the newly approved bachelor's degree in digital culture and how this program is designed to meld the arts with new media, equipping graduates with skills and critical thinking approaches essential for the new marketplace.

The program is among the first proficiency-based digital media degrees in the country and its curriculum includes nine different areas of study: six of these reside in the Herberger Institute (art, design, filmmaking practices, music, theatre, the arts and design studies) and three areas of study are offered in partnership with the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (media processing), the College of Technology and Innovation (technological entrepreneurship), and the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences’ program in Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance in the division of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies (interdisciplinary arts and performance).
