'Maid's Daughter' reports happy ending

November 07, 2011

Professor Mary Romero's book "The Maid's Daughter: Living Inside and Outside the American Dream" was featured in a Nov. 4 Los Angeles Times column by Hector Tobar, which included input from Professor Romero and from "Olivia," the woman whose life was chronicled in Romero's research.

Despite the identity struggles encountered growing up as the Mexican American daughter of a live-in domestic worker in a mostly-Anglo Los Angeles gated community, "Olivia" reports a successful professional career and an appreciation for the good that came out of her experiences.
