One of the most highly regarded international business newspapers just released its new rankings of executive MBA programs, and the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University ranks Top 20 worldwide. The Financial Times, Britain’s equivalent of The Wall Street Journal, applauds the school’s prestigious EMBA program in China as No. 20 globally and the No. 2 executive MBA program affiliated with any U.S. public university.

“We’re truly honored to receive this top-tier ranking from such a highly respected publication,” said Robert Mittelstaedt, dean of the W. P. Carey School of Business. “This ranking really speaks to the commitment of our faculty and our partners in China to provide a world-class management education for the global business community.”

The No. 20 ranking of the Shanghai program on the Financial Times 2011 global rankings list makes it one of the top five programs in China. Some of the highest-ranking business and government leaders in China are students and alumni of the program.

“Our students are senior-level executives running businesses and government officials in charge of policymaking that can influence literally millions of people,” said Buck K. W. Pei, professor and associate dean of Asia Programs at the W. P. Carey School of Business. “Our alums are among the drivers leading transformation of the Chinese economy.”

Students in the W. P. Carey School program in Shanghai have included three vice governors of China’s major provinces, six vice mayors of Shanghai and six mayors of other cities in China. These areas contain more than 272 million people and have a gross domestic product of about $1.36 trillion.

Other graduates have included the chief executive officer of the Shanghai Stock Exchange (the fifth-largest stock exchange in the world), several bank chairmen, the chairman of Shanghai Airlines, the chief executive officer of Baosteel and the deputy commissioner of the China Securities Regulatory Commission. Alums have a broad presence in a wide variety of industries throughout 23 provinces in China.

As part of the EMBA program, the students experience high-level visits to some of the biggest companies in the world. The also are taught by some of the top faculty members from both Arizona State University and other prominent universities. Since the program’s inception, four Nobel Prize winners have addressed the group.

The W. P. Carey School also has a top-notch executive MBA program in the Phoenix area, ranked No. 13 in the world by The Wall Street Journal. The school’s full-time MBA, evening MBA and undergraduate business programs are all ranked Top 30 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

In addition, this month, The Princeton Review issued its new edition of “The Best 294 Business Schools.” The new book, based in part on student surveys, lauds the W. P. Carey School of Business for its peer network, cutting-edge classes, happy students, career management center, and solid preparation in management and teamwork. It gives the school a 95 rating for admissions selectivity and a 93 rating for academic experience, on a scale with a maximum of 99.
