Making robots a part of our everyday life

Posted: Oct 05, 2011 | 2 min 19 sec

Winslow Burleson is using his expertise in human-computer interface to explore the possibilities of using robots to enhance our lives.

He says robots have the potential to aid people with disabilities, to help educate students, train people for sports activities and assist humans in a multitude of everyday endeavors.

He’s working on ways in which robots could be easily programmed without having to use complicated computer code, and expanding ways to train robots to perform new tasks.

In the video, for instance, you’ll see robots with the ability to respond to visual cues and a robotic wheelchair that can be programmed to play soccer.

Burleson is an assistant professor in the School of Computing, Informatics, and Decision Systems Engineering, one of ASU’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering.
