Physics meets cancer

June 02, 2011

ASU theoretical physicist Paul Davies has a fresh approach to cancer research that has been gaining international attention. His ability to challenge status-quo thinking is the subject of a June 1 Nature online news article.

"It takes someone like Paul, constantly nagging, asking disruptive questions, to get people to take a fresh look at their assumptions," says Stuart Lindsay, a colleague of Davies at ASU's Center for Convergence of Physical Science and Cancer Biology.

Davies' work has earned him a major role in the interdisciplinary cancer research effort – and a home at Arizona State University.

"I worry that there aren't enough Paul Davies around to ask disruptive things," says biologist Paul Myers in the article. "I worry that we'll become conventional — another failed assault on cancer."
