Small fire in MU closes lower level

April 05, 2011

A small fire broke out in the lower level of the Memorial Union on Tuesday, April 5, but was contained to a small area because of the sprinkler system. The fire appears to have originated in a piece of electrical equipment at Jamba Juice.

The building was closed at the time and there were no injuries reported. The main and upper levels of the building were opened at about 7:45 a.m. The lower level is expected to be closed throughout the morning.

Because the building is equipped with sprinklers, a major part of the building renovation in 2007, the damage was limited to a small area.
