ASU Alumni Association co-hosts “A Conversation With … Arizona’s Women Governors” on April 14

The state of Arizona has the distinction of having been governed by the greatest number of female governors. On April 14, these women will speak about the obstacles and endeavors that each of them faced during her term in office, as part of a presentation co-sponsored by the Arizona State University Alumni Association and az magazine.
The event, “A Conversation With … Arizona’s Women Governors,” is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, April 14, at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa in Phoenix. It will showcase all four female governors of Arizona:  Rose Mofford (1988-1991), Jane Dee Hull (1997-2003), Janet Napolitano (2003-2009) and Jan Brewer (2009-present). Each woman will address the leadership challenges and triumphs of her administration.

Each woman speaking at the event is a trailblazer for female leaders:
•    Former Gov. Mofford was Arizona’s first female governor.  She was recently named 2010 Woman of the Year by az magazine.
•    Former Gov. Hull was the first Arizona woman governor to be elected in her own right, winning the 2000 election.
•    Former Gov. Napolitano, who will appear at the event via video link, was the first woman to be elected to two consecutive terms as governor in Arizona, winning the 2002 and 2006 elections. She resigned from office in 2009 to become the first female Secretary of Homeland Security.
•    Gov. Brewer became Arizona’s third consecutive woman governor when she took office after Napolitano resigned in 2009. She was elected governor in her own right in 2010, and serves as Arizona’s current governor.
