Regents' Professor: Ana L. Moore

Posted: Feb 23, 2011 | 3 min 59 sec

Regents' Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Ana L. Moore’s important contributions in science stem from her knack for synthetic organic chemistry. She has led her team of students and postdoctoral associates to design complex sequences of synthetic pathways that produced intricate and exquisitely functional, organic molecules. A native of Argentina, Moore has been a dedicated teacher and mentor, providing a meaningful example and role model for female and Hispanic students and young faculty members.

"Professor Anna Moore is a really outstanding synthetic chemist," says Gary Brudvig, Eugene Higgins Professor of Chemistry at Yale University and professor of micro biophysics and biochemistry. "But what really distinguishes her, I think, is she uses her talents to develop system – practical systems – not just for the synthetic challenges themselves, and I think to that extent, the research that has come out of the Arizona State University group is really leading the way as far as developing synthetic systems that can convert solar energy, donor accepted complexes. I think Anna Moore has really provided some of the synthetic underpinnings for this really, really outstanding work."
