Another phenomenal performance from Hillary Bach Sunday helped lead the No. 13 Sun Devil Softball team to an 11-3 (5) win over the San Jose State Spartans to close out the 2011 Kajikawa Classic. Bach took her first win on the year while the Sun Devils finished opening weekend with a 5-1 record.

The Spartans hit the scoreboard early as they put one up on the Sun Devils in the top of the first with a sac fly from Jessica Garcia to bring home Britney Helm for a SJSU 1-0 lead. It didn’t last long though as ASU came out to post four quick runs on the Spartans in the bottom of the inning with four hits with RBIs for Sam Parlich and Alix Johnson.

Bach cruised through the Spartan line-up, seeing the minimum number of batters through the next three innings while her offense walked all over home plate, adding three runs in the second and third innings as well.

The Spartans looked to be facing an imminent shortened game when a Sun Devil error allowed two runs to come home for SJSU forcing the Sun Devils to come back for more. They didn’t come back for much though as Kaylyn Castillo stepped in the box in the bottom the fifth to end it in style as she lifted her first home run of the season deep into left center to finish the tournament in walk-off fashion.

The Sun Devils will return to the home diamond this upcoming weekend as they set to host the Littlewood Classic. The tournament will run this Friday, February 18 through February 20 in Tempe at Farrington Stadium.
