ASU students study sustainability in Dubai

January 21, 2011

A group of Arizona State University students recently participated in a two-week study abroad program in Dubai. It is the second year in a row that ASU students attended lectures at Middlesex University, met with local leaders, and learned about Middle Eastern history and culture as part of a winter session program offered by the School of Letters and Sciences and the School of Sustainability.

The students, representing a variety of disciplines, traveled to Dubai to study the interaction among humans, technology and the environment, namely how a sustainable city can be created in a desert.

Jameson Wetmore, assistant professor in ASU’s School of Human Evolution and Social Change in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, said the Middlesex University lectures were an ideal way to lead off the program. He explained, “They gave us a clear view as to why Dubai has become what it has become and what the aspirations for its future are.”
