Bakery serves up sound model for social enterprise

Posted: Jan 12, 2011 | 3 min 08 sec

Baked goods, innovation and empowerment are the ingredients for the recipe of Sweet Inde, a bakery and nonprofit corporation that empowers people with disabilities to gain competitive community employment.

Kristen Bean, a doctoral candidate in the School of Social Work, won an Innovation Challenge grant from ASU for her social entrepreneurship proposal. Bean used the grant funds to start Sweet Inde, and here she discusses the grant and how it helped her unite her two passions: baking and helping people with disabilities.

This video was created by Laura Palmisano, multimedia communications assistant, in the Office of Knowledge and Enterprise Development.
