Growing volume of electronic data threatens privacy

January 20, 2011

With ever-increasing online transactions and electronic social networking, privacy and security remain a critical concern – especially for government agencies, military operations, health care institutions and banks that must maintain voluminous electronic storehouses of data.

One recent study found that 1.2 million records that included personal data about thousands of United States citizens were exposed mistakenly or through breaches of security in 2010.

An article on a website that reports news about government communications issues and the use of information technology includes comments about the issue from Kasim Selcuk Candan, a professor in the School of Computing, Informatics, and Decision Systems Engineering, one of Arizona State University’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering.

Candan talks about ways to bolster privacy protection of electronic data.
