Women's swimming shines in Pac-10 opener

The 26th-ranked Arizona State women's swimming team defeated both Oregon State and Utah, 189-73 and 165-96 respectively. The Sun Devils were swimming on all cylinders, taking the top spot in 10 of the 14 events.

Led by Shannon Landgrebe's hat trick of freestyle victories, the Sun Devils are competing in their prime as their poised to host fifth-ranked California and first-ranked Stanford. Landgrebe finished first in the 100, 200, and 500 freestyle events.

Cassie Morrice and Karima Chuck touched in one and two in the 1000 free to kick off the individual events. Morrice recorded a time of 9:59.95, while Chuck finished less than a minute late at 10:31.

Setting the tone for the meet, the ASU relay of Kelli Kyle, Rebecca Ejdervik, Caroline Kuczynski and Katie Haron took first place in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:43.21, a couple tenths of a second ahead of second-place Utah.
The Sun Devils return to competition on January 21 and 22 as ASU hosts the Bay Area schools.
