Women's hoops defeats Oregon for seventh straight win

Kimberly Brandon scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Arizona State past Oregon 86-67 Sunday in Pac-10 play, the Sun Devils' seventh straight win.

Amanda Johnson, who came into the game leading the conference with 19.6 points a game and second in rebounding at 9.3 a game for Oregon (9-4, 0-2), was held to six points and four rebounds, both season lows. She had just two points and two rebounds in first half as Arizona State opened up a 47-37 lead.

The Sun Devils (10-2, 2-0) held the conference's highest scoring team - 89 points a game - to its lowest offensive output of the year.

Johnson had four points and four rebounds with 10 minutes left and ASU leading 68-50. Nia Jackson led the Ducks with 17 points and four assists.

Becca Tobin added 12 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot for Arizona State. Tobin scored four points during an 8-0 run that gave the Sun Devils a 64-48 advantage with 12:08 remaining. Arizona State led by as much as 25 in the second half.

Dymond Simon had 15 points and four assists for the Sun Devils.

The Sun Devils finished the first half on 20-12 run to take the 10-point lead at the break having shot 20-of-38 (53 percent) from the field.
