Kennegard ties for 15th at All-America Golf Classic

Senior Jesper Kennegard finished the two-day Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic in a tie for 15th after recording a 1-under par 211 (71-70-70) in three rounds at the El Paso Country Club in El Paso, Texas.

Kennegard shot a 1-under par 70 for the second consecutive round after carding an even par 70 and a 1-under par 71 in the first two rounds, respectively.

Alex Ching of the University of San Diego won the title with a 12-under par 201 after shooting a 4-under par 67 in all three rounds of the event.

Kennegard is one of 32 of the nation's premier collegiate golfers invited to the 36th annual event and past champions include Ricky Barnes (2000), Notah Begay (1994), David Duval (1991), Davis Love III (1984) and Tiger Woods (1995).

Billy Mayfair, who won the Classic as a sophomore in 1986, is the only Sun Devil to sit atop the leaderboard in the 35-year history of the event. Mayfair was twice selected to the First-Team All-American team in his four years in Tempe. The Phoenix native also medaled eight times, and earned Honorable Mention All-American honors in his freshman season and Second-Team All-American honors his sophomore year.

Last season, the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic ranked as the No. 1 tournament in the country for the sixth consecutive season, according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.

A $1,000 scholarship is awarded to every university that sends a golfer to the tournament.
