Cronkite School announces NBC partnership
A new partnership with NBC News will provide students in the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication with professional internship opportunities at top network properties in New York City, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Atlanta and Burbank, Calif.
Up to four Arizona State University students will be selected for the NBC internships each semester, beginning this fall.
Students will be assigned to NBC’s top programs, including “NBC Nightly News” with Brian Williams, “Today” and “Dateline NBC.” They will assist in the research and production of news stories, and have the opportunity to work one-on-one with some of the network’s top journalists.
“Through these internships, Cronkite students will be exposed to the top journalistic talent at NBC News,” said Mark Lodato, Cronkite School assistant dean and director of NewsWatch, the school’s award-winning student newscast. “It’s a tremendous opportunity to work side by side with some of the very best in our industry in this exciting time.”
The Cronkite School will provide scholarships of up to $2,000 to defray students’ living expenses in New York during their internships.
“This partnership is the creation of Steve Capus, the president of NBC News who was so impressed with our students and programs when he visited the Cronkite School with Brian Williams last November,” said Cronkite Dean Christopher Callahan. “We believe this special and unique partnership will help our students tremendously while creating a pipeline of talented Cronkite students to NBC.”
Part of NBC Universal, NBC News is known for such programs as “NBC Nightly News” with Brian Williams, “Today,” “Meet the Press” and “Dateline NBC.” Its cable affiliate, MSNBC, provides coverage around the clock.
Lodato said the internships are the first phase of what he hopes will be a growing partnership with the network and that he expects more opportunities for Cronkite students in the future.
