Top graduates from ASU named

More than a third of the undergraduates getting degrees from ASU on May 13 have distinguished themselves academically, often while working and juggling family obligations.

Among the most prestigious awards are the Outstanding Graduate Awards given by the Alumni Association to those who have achieved both inside and outside the classroom. Only one student per college is chosen. The following is a list of the 2010 Outstanding Graduates:

• College of Nursing & Health Innovation – Martha McNair of Gilbert
• College of Public Programs – Bianca Altamirano of Phoenix
• College of Teacher Education & Leadership – Nicole Margul of Tempe
• College of Technology & Innovation – Jiefeng Lin of Mesa
• Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts – Natalia Jaeger of Caracas, Venezuela
• Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering – Luz Osuna of Glendale
• Mary Lou Fulton Institute & Graduate School of Education – J. Luke Wood of Mt. Shasta, Calif.
• New College of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences – Zachary Hernandez of Glendale
• Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law – Susan Alison Atwater of Mayer
• School of Letters & Sciences – Michaela Stephens of Freeport, Ill.
• School of Sustainability – Briar Schoon of Gilbert
• W. P. Carey School of Business – Lissa Regets of Harrisburg, Penn.
• Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication – Lissa Regets of Harrisburg

Some 1,055 students are graduating with summa cum laude honors, with a GPA of 3.8 or higher. Another 840 are graduating magna cum laude, with a 3.6 to 3.79 GPA, and 925 will graduate cum laude, with a GPA of 3.4 – 3.59.

Barrett, the Honors College, boasts 365 graduates. These students have completed at least 30 honors credits and have written a comprehensive honors thesis or creative project and have defended it before a committee.

Another 102 students are receiving the Moeur Award from the ASU Alumni Association, for having a 4.0 GPA with all their coursework completed at ASU.
